what is holistic therapeutic massage?

Massage is an ancient form of healing. A wide range of techniques is applied to the skin, muscles, fascia, soft tissues and joints in a nurturing process of touch and response.

The term holistic is from the Greek word meaning whole and therapeutic is from the Greek meaning ‘to attend’. A holistic therapeutic massage could be said to be one where the therapist fully attends to the whole of a person – body, mind and spirit – in order to have a beneficial effect on that person’s health.

People use massage therapy for a variety of reasons. Some use it alongside conventional medical care to help them manage or cope with a specific physical, mental or emotional problem, or to support them living with a chronic condition. Others use it as a means of relaxation, or to help maintain good health and a sense of general well-being.
